Why Billy Bennett was written.

They say you should write about what you know, so what better place to begin than the place I grew up? When Jackie, my partner of 34 years, suggested I write a book, I thought she was joking. Me? Write a book? I hadn't read enough to fill a tiny shelf, let alone considered writing one myself. The idea felt absurd, an impossible mountain to climb. Yet somewhere, her words awakened something deep inside me, a spark I didn’t even know was there—the seed of a storyteller.

Now, this didn’t just happen in a flash. No sudden epiphany or lightning bolt of creativity. For weeks I found myself daydreaming, piecing together fragments of ideas before I found it—the story I wanted to tell. A beginning, a middle, and an end, all falling into place like a puzzle I didn’t even realize I was working on. And I’ve got to admit, once it clicked, a rush of excitement so overwhelming took over, I had to sit down and write, having no clue what kind of rollercoaster I was about to board.

Storytelling has now become a deep passion within me, although my journey into writing began unexpectedly—as a way to support my mental health. What started as a casual, therapeutic outlet grew into something much larger. For four years, I sat at my computer, writing not just one, but enough material for four novels. I might have stopped there if it hadn’t been for the encouragement of a fellow author, "Joanne Bailey", who saw potential in my work and believed it was worth nurturing.

I’ve often heard people say, “Anyone can write a book.” To that, I say—with a dash of humour—go ahead, knock yourself out! Writing has proven to be the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. As someone who's dyslexic, reading has never come easy to me, so writing was an even greater mountain to climb.

Now, six years after completing those initial drafts, I’ve finally finished my debut novel. Along the way, I made mistakes, but I also received invaluable feedback from beta readers that helped to shape Billy's story. I’ve deleted chapters, rewritten them, and edited until my eyes ached. But today, I’m proud to share Billy's story with you. I’m confident you'll enjoy this tale as much as I've loved bringing it to life.

The Writing Process

My day begins at six in the morning, giving me precious hours to embrace the quiet before the day’s work kicks off at nine. This start, with only a few short breaks, fuels my commitment to maintaining focus and delivering quality writing.

It's during these hours of uninterrupted creativity that characters like Billy Bennett come to life—each one infused with a distinctive voice that brings originality and depth to the novel. This balance of discipline and imagination ensures that you're not just met with a good story, but one that surpasses your expectations and lingers in your mind long after the final page.

Commitment to Excellence

Excellence isn’t just a goal—it’s a commitment. In my writing, every word is chosen with care, every detail refined in the pursuit of perfection. I believe in the power of storytelling to forge deep connections, and this belief drives the quality of each book I create. By blending creativity with professionalism, I strive not only to captivate you but also to stand out as a trusted author you can rely on for a truly unforgettable experience.
